How FoundOnArdy works
Find it. Save it. Organize it. Share what is worth keeping.
FoundOnArdy helps you find useful content and keep it organized. Choose a topic to learn one thing at a time.
YouTube Transcript search uses the 150 most frequent meaningful words rather than scanning every word in the full transcript.
How FoundOnArdy works
Find it. Save it. Organize it. Share what is worth keeping.
Useful videos, articles, tutorials, and links are scattered across the internet. FoundOnArdy gives you one place to search for them, keep the best ones, organize them for yourself, and — when you choose — turn your organization into Lists other people can follow.
This guide is public. Using Public Lists — searching them, opening them, following them, reacting, and setting List alerts — requires a FoundOnArdy account.
The key idea
A Category is your folder. A Public Category becomes a List.
When you create a Category on your Desktop, you choose Private or Public. Private Categories are for your own organization. Public Categories are shown to other logged-in users as Public Lists. That visibility choice is permanent, so you always know what stays private and what you are publishing.
Find useful content
Search for the thing you actually want to learn.
Instead of hoping an algorithm serves the right video or article, search FoundOnArdy with normal words. Narrow the results using source, language, duration, date, difficulty, and other filters. For YouTube videos, Transcript searches the 150 most frequent meaningful words rather than scanning every word in the full transcript. Common English, Spanish, and Italian words are removed before counting. Every word you search for must be in that list; capitalization and word order do not matter. Title and Summary matching are unchanged. Premium and Admin users can open a video and click View transcript to read the full text.
Logged-in Search can also return matching Public Lists, so a useful collection made by another person can be discovered alongside individual content.
Keep what matters
Save the useful records instead of losing them again.
When you find something worth revisiting, save it to your Desktop. Your Desktop is the personal workspace where your saved content and Categories live.
Already have a link from another website? Use Save URL to save it straight to your Desktop. The next section explains what stays private and what may appear in Search.
Save URL
Have a link already? Save it directly to your Desktop.
Found a useful video, post, article, or repository elsewhere? Copy its link, sign in to FoundOnArdy, and open Save URL. You do not need to find it in Search first.
- 1
Paste the URL and check its content type
YouTube, X, Medium, and GitHub can be recognized from the link. A mismatched link and content type shows an error and blocks saving. This basic check uses no AI and does not fetch the source page.
- 2
Add a title and choose a language
Both are required. Summary, creator, tags, and publication date are optional. For YouTube, duration is optional too. FoundOnArdy retrieves available YouTube transcripts through its private ingestion workflow, so you do not paste one here.
- 3
Choose your private folder(s)
Choose one or more Desktop folders. With no folder selected, your link goes into Links without category. The same link can be saved in different folders, but not twice in the same folder. Personal notes stay private.
- 4
Review, then save
Check the details before the final Save URL button. Your link is saved to your Desktop immediately. The URL cannot be edited afterward; save a new link to correct the address.
Public links: YouTube, X, Medium, GitHub
These source types are always Public candidates. A new link waits for the 1:00 AM New York verification job before appearing in Search. The Desktop status tells you whether it is pending, published, or could not publish. Temporary verification problems get up to three nightly attempts. A link already in Search does not need to be published again.
Private links: Instagram and other sources
These links stay on your Desktop and do not enter the public verification job. Visibility is determined by the content type and cannot be switched. Your Desktop folders and personal notes remain private even when the link itself is Public.
Removing your personal Desktop save does not remove the shared Search result or anyone else’s saves. If a public record is hidden or cannot be published, your saved Desktop copy remains.
Published user-added links show who added them. Reports from five different users temporarily hide a link from Search for admin review. The original contributor has a 24-hour correction window after publication for shared metadata; the URL stays locked.
Available YouTube transcripts are collected by FoundOnArdy's private ingestion workflow and are not pasted into Save URL.
iPhone Quick Save
Save a link from your iPhone straight to your FoundOnArdy Desktop.
Set it up once. After that, when an app or browser shares a normal web link, tap Share → FoundOnArdy Desktop. No copy and paste, and no need to open FoundOnArdy first.
Set up once
- 1
Create your iPhone connection
Sign in to FoundOnArdy, open Account → iPhone saving, tap Create iPhone connection code, and copy the code.
- 2
Install FoundOnArdy Desktop
Tap Install FoundOnArdy Desktop. During Shortcut setup, paste the connection code. You only need to do this once for that connection.
Use it every day
- 3
Share a web link
From Safari, Chrome, YouTube, X, Medium, GitHub, or another app that exposes a normal web link to the iPhone Share sheet, tap Share → FoundOnArdy Desktop.
- 4
Find it on your Desktop
The link lands in Desktop → Links without category. Move it into a folder later, or use Add details when more information is needed.
What happens after you share?
Quick Save captures the link first so saving stays fast. Incomplete captures stay private. Once you complete the details, YouTube, X, Medium and GitHub links can enter public Search after verification; other sources and personal notes stay private.
If your iPhone is lost or shared, open Account → iPhone saving and revoke that connection.
Organize your Desktop
Use Categories like folders, including subcategories.
Create broad Categories and then organize them into smaller topics. This keeps your Desktop useful even after you have saved hundreds of things.
Finance → Municipal Bonds
Home → Pool Maintenance
Subcategories inherit the visibility of their parent, so a Private tree stays private and a Public tree stays public.
Private or Public
Keep a Category for yourself, or publish it as a List.
You choose visibility when the Category is created. A Private Category is personal organization. A Public Category becomes a List that other logged-in users can find and use.
Your username is shown as the List creator; your email is not. Public List descriptions remain editable. Public List names can be changed during the first 24 hours, then lock so followers are not unexpectedly following a different topic.

Discover and follow
Let other people do some of the collecting for you.
A good Public List can save you from searching the entire internet yourself. Search for a topic, open a List, inspect what is inside, and follow it if you want to keep it on your Desktop.
Following does not automatically send email. It simply keeps the live List on your Desktop. Notifications are a separate choice.

Stay updated when you want
Follow quietly, or add an email alert for a List.
If a List matters enough that you want updates delivered to you, turn on a List alert. Choose daily or weekly delivery, your time, and your email.
Topic alerts and List alerts live in My Alerts. You stay in control of whether each alert is active.
You stay in control
Public does not mean unmoderated.
FoundOnArdy gives logged-in users simple controls around community Lists.
Like or dislike
Give simple feedback on a List without changing the creator's content.
Block a creator
Hide that creator's Lists from your own FoundOnArdy experience.
Report a List
Send a List to FoundOnArdy for review when something needs attention.
Private stays private
Private Categories are not converted into Public Lists later; visibility is fixed at creation.
Common questions
The short version.
What exactly is a List?
A List is a Category that its creator chose to make Public when it was created. It can contain saved content and public subcategories.
Can logged-out visitors browse Public Lists?
No. This explanation page is public, but Public List search, browsing, following, reactions, and List alerts require login.
Are Following and alerts the same?
No. Following keeps the live List on your Desktop. An alert is an optional daily or weekly email setting for that List.
Can I change a List back to Private?
No. Public/Private visibility is permanent. This avoids accidentally exposing something private or unexpectedly hiding something people follow.
Illustrations use example titles and counts, not live platform statistics.
Start simple
Search for one thing you care about.
Then save one useful result. The rest of the system — Categories, Lists, Following, and alerts — becomes useful naturally as your collection grows.
